Haydn Transformed V.1
The Bird, The Emperor and The Dream
This recording, the first of The Wallace Collection’s Haydn Transformed project, presents three of the 23 Haydn string quartets that were transformed into brass quintets by Julien Tollot (1825-1896) in his ‘Collection des Quatuors d’Haydn’ that was rediscovered in 2021 by Sandy Coffin in the Bibliothèque nationale de France. Performed on period instruments, these offer significant insight to the performance practices of the era while also providing a little taste of this important, lost repertoire which deserves a new spotlight.
