Used 1952 Bach New York Stradivarius Bb cornet in raw brass with U.S. Navy stamp below the manufacturer engraving. This NY-era Bach cornet plays extremely well, with a gorgeous, full, singing tone in all registers and very good valve action, response, and intonation. It gives you fantastic acoustic feedback thanks to the French bead, so you can hear yourself well over louder ensembles. This would make an excellent instrument for concert band or any style of jazz. We gave it a professional cleaning and precision valve alignment, and we found valve compression and action best with Berp 3. Cosmetically, there are a few things to be aware of: there's a large patch on the back turn with evidence of significant repairs to it, as well as evidence of repairs to the main tuning slide, bell flare and bell bead. There's some surface wear throughout but no pitting or red rot and nothing that affects playability. Please note this is a raw brass instrument, and the finish shows some water spots and will develop a patina over time. Comes with a slightly later Mt. Vernon-era case in very good condition but with one latch that needs a new spring.
