Used Reynolds Contempora 190 Chambers Model double French horn in lacquer. This horn was designed in collaboration with James Chambers (New York Philharmonic principal hornist 1946-1969), and it’s an outstanding example of a wonderful vintage American double horn, easily comparable to the best-playing and sounding Kruspe-style horns! The instrument has been pampered over the years by just two owners and has been customized to appeal to players with different-size left hands, with an extended thumb pad on trigger to facilitate smaller hands, and an Alexander adjustable left hand “duck foot” and adjustable pinky hook. It was played professionally in orchestra and chamber music settings, and it has a magnificent low range and very easy and secure high range, as well as impeccable intonation across both sides of the horn.
We gave it a professional cleaning and precision alignment for the Marston rotors, and the horn is in good overall condition with small areas of lacquer loss here and there, as well as some minor surface scratches and evidence of small repairs to the flare, but nothing severe. There’s some red rot in one of the tuning slides, but that’s easily managed with proper care. This great horn deserves to be played and added to a discerning horn player’s collection! Comes with the original case in good condition.
