Oil: TrombotineThis used 1954 King 2B Silver-Sonic tenor trombone with a sterling silver bell is in good overall condition. We professionally cleaned it and aligned the slide tubes, and the slide action is very good with Trombotine. The horn was partially replated (gooseneck and main tuning slide) in rose gold at some point in its life; that's mostly worn off except for a little remaining on the main tuning slide. There’s some wear on the inner slides, evidence of past repairs to the gooseneck and main tuning slide, and a few minor imperfections and scratches in the bell section, but nothing that affects playability.
The sterling silver bell gives this 2B a singing upper register and a full, focused sound that projects extremely well. It feels nimble and responsive, making it an excellent choice for a lead trombonist who needs clarity and power without losing warmth. Even at higher volumes, the sound holds together nicely and stays centered. The bell flare is engraved with the name of a previous owner, “Lyle Quackenbush,” adding a bit of personal history to the instrument.
No case included.
