This exceptionally well preserved early Bach trumpet comes to us from the collection of renowned Hollywood recording artist Wayne Bergeron. Originally built in 1926, the instrument was completely rebuilt at the Bach shop in 1934 using a bell made in 1932, making it an ultra rare "X" horn as confirmed by the pair of original Bach shop cards that accompany the instrument.
This trumpet features an unusual combination of a #4 bell, #4 leadpipe, and nickel silver valve block. It was expertly relacquered at some point in its life and presents beautifully. Aside from slight wear on the receiver, minor lacquer loss where the stop rod post was replaced, and a few very light surface scratches, the finish still looks nearly new.
There are protective patches on the second slide crook and third slide knuckle, along with evidence of a small, well executed leadpipe repair. Overall, the trumpet is in remarkable condition for an instrument approaching 100 years old.
The valves have been rebuilt and retain excellent compression. We have performed a complete professional cleaning and precision valve alignment, and both the valve action and compression are outstanding.
This trumpet plays exceptionally well with a brilliant, resonant sound, outstanding projection, and the unmistakable character that made these early New York Bach instruments so legendary. It is such an incredible playing instrument that it makes you wish Bach had never discontinued this configuration.
No case included.
