Oil: Hetman 2This used 1951 Benge 3X ML Bb trumpet was made during the highly-regarded Chicago era, and it’s in very good overall shape for its age. It was relacquered at some point, and the lacquer is completely intact except for some slight wear on the receiver and a raw brass 1st slide crook due to the installation of a very well-executed 1st slide saddle. It’s extremely light and plays with good brilliance without being strident, while being very responsive and versatile via different mouthpieces. The ML bore helps make it very easy playing.
We gave it a professional cleaning and a precision valve alignment, and the valves were rebuilt at some point, the the action and compression are both excellent. There’s some evidence of red rot in the leadpipe, but it’s easily managed with proper care. There’s also faint signs of minor repairs to the bell stem, flare, and back turn, but nothing major.
Comes with original case in good condition—the latches and springs work, though one latch button was replaced with a screw.
