Oil: Yamaha RegularThis used Bach 229 had a 25H leadpipe installed here at our shop, before we cleaned it and precision-aligned the valves. Aside from some brass wear at the hand-contact points, it's in very good shape -- no red rot or evidence of significant trauma. The 25H leadpipe (also called the Herseth leadpipe for legendary CSO principal Bud Herseth) distinguishes itself from Bach's standard 25C pipe by being more free-blowing (due to a wider venturi) and having wider slots thanks to a step introduced via an internal sleeve at the other end of the pipe. This is a serious player, with excellent brilliance and clarity, medium resistance for both lyrical and technical passages, and great valve action and compression. No case.
