This used Bach 229 is in very good overall shape. We cleaned it and precision-aligned the valves. The plating is 99.9% intact except for a tiny spot near the rear Z brace. Valve action and compression are both excellent. No red rot or evidence of significant trauma, just some minor scratches and some evidence of minor repairs in the bell flare. The 25H leadpipe (also called the Herseth leadpipe for legendary CSO principal Bud Herseth) distinguishes itself from Bach's standard 25C pipe by being more free-blowing (due to a wider venturi) and having wider slots thanks to a step introduced via an internal sleeve at the other end of the pipe. This is a serious player, with excellent brilliance and clarity, easy articulation, medium resistance and breadth of tone for both lyrical and technical passages. Perfect for those looking for that classic Bach C sound. No case.
