This used Austin Custom Brass by Adams Coppernicus Bb trumpet is in very good condition. We gave it a professional cleaning and precision valve alignment, and the valve action and compression are excellent.

The Coppernicus has a distinctive design, including double shepherd’s crooks, Saturn-style waterkeys, and a very large 5.5" bell. It also uses a poly bore, which adds an element of “power steering” to the feel—while in practice the horn plays very much like an ML bore (we measured .459" at the second valve slide). The result is a horn that feels stable and easy to control while still producing a dark, even, and very lush sound. It really shines on ballads and lyrical playing.

Cosmetically, it’s in excellent shape overall, with only minor surface scratches in the lacquer and a small patch of lacquer loss on the receiver, as well as evidence of the leadpipe having been remounted. The horn is copper plated and then lacquered, which contributes to both its look and its warm tonal character.
