Designed for British trumpet star Mike Lovatt, these horns are extremely versatile and perform flawlessly in all musical situations, whether live or in studio. They combine many of the best aspects of Bach and Yamaha trumpets, with an even sound and intonation all the way up and down the horn, as well as excellent projection, slotting and liveliness. They feature an interchangeable leadpipe system, with the Mike Lovatt (ML) model included as standard -- additional leadpipes for different playing situations sold separately.

FROM SMITH WATKINS:
Good players command sophisticated instruments. They know the sounds they like to hear and want an instrument adaptable enough that they can forget the mechanics and just concentrate on making great music; Smith-Watkins instruments enable them to do just that. Musical needs vary from playing jazz and chamber music, to recording in a studio.

No two players are the same or have the same requirements. That is why Smith-Watkins designs each instrument to suit the individual and their particular requirements perfectly. Finding exactly the right instrument is where the personalised service offered by Smith-Watkins, a company founded on ground-breaking academic research and expert craftsmanship, really sets it apart.

Mike Lovatt has played with the top ten British Symphony Orchestras, London Brass, SuperBrass, BBC Concert Orchestra, BBC Big Band, Royal Ballet and Opera Orchestras. In 2013 Mike was awarded the degree Hon. RAM by the Royal Academy of Music and the position of Derek Watkins Chair of Trumpet. He is also Professor of Trumpet at the Royal College of Music. Mike is a design consultant for Smith-Watkins Trumpets, Cornets and Flugel Horns. Since 1994, he has played exclusively on Smith-Watkins Instruments made for him by Richard Smith.
